At IIDEX 2012 in Toronto, BTD exhibited its expanding line of proprietary t.fusion™ powder coated wood finishes. IIDEX is an annual design and architecture exposition and conference. Held this year at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto on September 20-21, IIDEX is the largest event of its type in Canada. With over 15,000 attendees and 350 exhibitors, BTD management chose to exhibit at the event this year. Canada is expected to grow to the fifth largest construction market in the world by 2020, so the country remains a focal point for BTD’s efforts.
BTD elected to demonstrate a variety of samples at the show, ranging from textures to smooth metallics and colors. “Our powder coated wood parts need to be handled in person in order to fully appreciate the opportunities the finish provides. We can often see the light bulb turning on in our customers’ heads,” said Craig Martin, BTD’s President. The exhibit itself was located inside the Materials Pavilion, which is a display dedicated to showcasing new and innovative finishing materials.
BTD’s exhibit drew interest from a variety of groups, including architecture and design firms, furniture manufacturers, and design students. Current and potential customers enjoyed experiencing the company’s products in person; both established and new powder coated wood finishes were on display at BTD’s table.
One notable theme at IIDEX was a variety of bright colors. According to Heidi Hansen of BTD, “I saw extensive use of color in millwork, casework, textiles, and lighting products. This theme is great for BTD, as our powder coated wood really stands out in bright colors. We can match virtually any color based upon our customers’ needs.”
Overall, the company was pleased with its decision to attend at IIDEX, as they were kept busy with a steady stream of interested attendees. There was even time for a little fun, as evidenced by the competitive office chair hockey tournament (Teknion took the gold medal). The compelling exhibits, accomplished professionals, and a booming location all made the event a positive experience.
